The Hair Color Extender aims to liberate dye dependentsor at least stretch their time between appointments. Designed to be filled by one's own colorist, the two-barrel plastic container stores dye and color-activating developer separately (they should remain stable for up to six months). When it's time to touch up, the two squeeze together and create just enough dye to treat pesky hairlines and parts. "It's a lifesaver for anyone with single-process color, who sees roots appear in just two weeks," says the man behind the Extender, Basil Konstantinidis, a salon owner in Tappan, New York. Asked whether his invention might be bad for business, Konstantinidis laughed. "Now that my clients' color looks good all the time, I get more referrals than ever."
