The Proenza Schouler spring 2009 collection was tough and fearless, but long, unfettered locks added just the right dose of sexy-chic drama. "She's not perfect," says Omar Lopez, lead hairstylist for ghd. "As an average wartime girl, she's not completely coiffedshe's had to step up to that masculine role and has a Rosie the Riveter elementbut she's still feminine."
To create the imperfect, side-swept tendrils, Lopez first sprayed ghd Sea Spray for Matte Waves. "We wanted that matte texture," Lopez explains. "Though there were shiny elements in the heels of the shoes, the bags, and the belts, the fabrics had a matte finishso we played with that." In creating the finger-wave style, Lopez parted hair on the side and flat-ironed back and forth along the surface, using metal prongs to help shape the wave. Pulling remaining strands over the shoulder, he then pinned them in back for a side-swept style.
