To complement the seductive, contemporary clothing of the BCBG spring 2009 collection, lead hairstylist Laurent Philippon chose a similarly modern hairstyle. And at the center of attention was a perfectly sleek part. "The hair is clean, but we made it sharp by adding a straight part in the middle," says Philippon about the carefree do. "We used a mix of Prep from Bumble and bumblewhich is a very light liquid conditionerand Styling Lotion to bring a bit of hold."
After preparing the hair, Philippon blow-dried with a round brush to soften the effect of the sectioned-off middle and to create "a slight curve with movement and life." Philippon also mussed the models' strands ever so lightly before they stepped onto the runway. "To me, it doesn't really matter what your face shape is," says Philippon about the center part. "Unless you have a really skinny, long face, I think it's fine."
Guido, Redken's creative consultant, who styled a similar down-the-middle hairstyle at Gap's spring 2009 show, agrees: "Sure, there are technical rules [about face shape], but rules are there to be broken."
