Though pixies, bobs, and choppy layers are chic, updating your do for spring can be as simple as snipping long side-swept bangs into a sleek, straight line. "Blunt fringe is hot right now and will continue to be through summer," says hairstylist Garren, who sent several models at Anna Sui's spring 2010 show down the runway with brow-grazing bangs. But, according to him, the "bowl cuts" that accompanied bangs at Sui's show aren't required. Though famous for crafting short, razor-sharp dos (his clients include crop-cut devotees Victoria Beckham and Isabella Rossellini), Garren says those with lengthier tresses can also benefit from wearing bangs perpendicular to the face ("If you have long hair, blunt bangs give your style an extra edge"). Case in point: Inspired by Cher's flowing-locks-and-fringe combo from the `60s, Garren chose one long-haired model (Chanel Iman) to sport a similar head-turning do. Also worn by celebrities like Nicole Richie (see photo at right), the style is proof that achieving a trendier look doesn't necessitate letting go of the length you love.
