2009 Spring Hairstyles- Find so Many Updo Hairstyles

2009 Spring Hairstyles- Find so Many Updo Hairstyles - ELLE How Fendi's tangled hairstyle got a squeaky-clean makeover

Imaxtree

Hairstylist Guido Palau found himself facing a reality-TV-caliber challenge at Versace when eight models rushed in from the Fendi show with teased, shellacked updos that were eons away from the sleek ponytails he hoped to create. "I cursed a lot," says the Redken creative consultant. "But I've done it to other stylists, too." To prevent knotting, his team painstakingly brushed the models' hair ("Don't use
any water, or you'll make the knots worse," Palau says), spritzed on smoothing Redken Iron Silk spray, then pulled hair back for a bella (à la Donatella) finish.

Latest Hairtsyles Has the Best 2009 Spring Hairstyles

Latest Hairtsyles Has the Best 2009 Spring Hairstyles - ELLE The windblown look took Monique Lhuillier’s spring 2009 show by storm

Imaxtree

Tresses at Monique Lhuillier's spring 2009 show were uncomplicated yet stylish. "The hardest thing about this hairstyle wasn't actually creating it," says Eugene Souleiman, lead hairstylist, about the mussed up coif. "It was coming up with something that worked with the collection. The clothes flow and move, and I thought the hair needed to feel organic."

The result? "The look is very light and very dry—as if at one point it was styled but the girl's gone into this tempestuous environment," says Souleiman, who sprayed hair with ghd Sea Spray for Matte Waves before pulling it into a bun. To achieve the untidy tresses he describes, Souleiman palmed hair forward after securing into a bun, and left a few choice pieces hanging loose from the chignon.

Maggie Gyllenhaal

Maggie Gyllenhaal

With onscreen love Aaron Eckhart by her side, The Dark Knight's Gyllenhaal bedazzled in a one-shoulder gown and a smoothly pinned French twist.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway

To create what he calls a Grace Kelly–inspired do, hairstylist Adir Abergel pulled Hathaway's hair into a delicate chignon. "I wanted to keep it simple and very clean," he says. "The chignon gave her a long neck and brought attention to her face." After prepping Hathaway's strands with products from Frédéric Fekkai's Coiff line, Abergel fastened hair in a low pony and folded it into a bun.

Megan Fox

Megan Fox

The star of How to Lose Friends & Alienate People didn't have a mainstream updo, but she no doubt won over onlookers with her sleek, structured style. More runway than red carpet, Fox's sculpted strands were reminiscent of those seen at Prada's spring 2009 show. "I didn't want the hair to be romantic," says Renato Campora, the Frédéric Fekkai hairstylist behind Fox's fetching French twist. "She wore a Ralph Lauren dress that was antique gold, so I wanted to give the hairstyle modernity."

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie

Who needs a flashy hairdo and diamonds when you have an accessory like Brad Pitt? Looking understated yet stylish as always, Jolie wore her lovely locks long and loose, with just the slightest bit of curl at the ends. The coiffeur behind her minimal mane: hairstylist David Babaii, co-founder of David Babaii for WildAid. Like all of his styling treatments, Bohemian Beach Spray—the main product used on Jolie's locks—is made from natural and renewable ingredients; 10 percent of all profits go toward WildAid, a global wildlife conservation organization.

January Jones

January Jones

Though she ditched Betty Draper's bright-red pucker, Mad Men actress Jones kept her character's deep side part and prettily waved tendrils. "I decided to take a glamorous Old Hollywood look and bring it into modern times," says Matrix hairstylist Mark Townsend, who coiffed Jones' curls. "I was inspired by Veronica Lake's classic waves, but I wanted to mess them up just a little bit to give the style an edge." Bonus: In addition to having a winning do, Jones was also part of a winning show—Mad Men won a Globe for Best Drama Series.

Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet

In a positive twist of fate, the oft-nominated Winslet was finally declared a winner—twice! Her hair followed suit: the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress award recipient wore her blond coif in a French twist, letting side-swept strands frame her face.

Eva Longoria Parker

Eva Longoria Parker

Longoria Parker looked anything but desperate at Sunday's awards. To complement her sleek, formfitting gown, the actress wore a similarly sleek do. With hair parted down the center, she pulled strands into a tidy chignon at the nape of her neck.

Evan Rachel Wood

Evan Rachel Wood

The Wrestler actress wrestled up a center part and chignon, too. However, unlike Eva Longoria Parker, Wood opted to wear her chignon slightly higher and with a touch of texture at the crown.

Elizabeth Banks

Elizabeth Banks

The only screams directed at The Uninvited actress when she walked the red carpet were from adoring fans—not potential victims. Pulled into a diamond-studded hairclip, Banks' neatly curled coif was award-worthy.

Freida Pinto

Freida Pinto

The Slumdog Millionaire newcomer also sported a side-pinned coif. Unlike Elizabeth Banks, though, Pinto wore her pretty locks looser and unfettered—she's definitely mastered the au naturel look!

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek

While makeup artist Matthew VanLeeuwen says he added "jeweling" to Hayek's features via shimmering skin, metallic eyes, and glossy lips, hairstylist Robert Vetica wrapped Hayek's hair in real jewels—a sparkling hair band reportedly worth a quarter of a million dollars! For an overall glistening effect, Vetica also incorporated MoroccanOil products: Before braiding Hayek's dazzling chignon, he used MoroccanOil to detangle damp strands and MoroccanOil Styling Cream to ensure the perfect blow-dry.

Hayden Panettiere

Hayden Panettiere

Diamonds might be a girl's best friend, but in order to show off the bejeweled bodice of her Gianfranco Ferré gown, Panettiere left her neck bare. Instead, the Heroes actress opted for barely there Fred Leighton diamond earrings, which shone brilliantly thanks to her curly, over-the-shoulder do.

Amy Adams

Amy Adams

Another actress who chose to accentuate her earrings was Doubt star Amy Adams. "The hairstyle was inspired by Amy's natural beauty and the gorgeous Lorraine Schwartz earrings she wore," says Matrix hairstylist Mark Townsend, who created Adams' Golden Globes look.

Fun fact: Townsend let Adams' strands air-dry so that the texture would remain spontaneous and natural. He then sprayed Vavoom Gold Heat Iron-In Control Protective Dry Mist throughout and curled locks from roots to ends before pulling strands back to show off Adams' baubles.

2009 Spring Hairsyles has all the Fashion Week Hairstyles

2009 Spring Hairsyles has all the Fashion Week Hairstyles - ELLE Curls went matte and undone at Proenza Schouler’s spring 2009 show

Imaxtree

The Proenza Schouler spring 2009 collection was tough and fearless, but long, unfettered locks added just the right dose of sexy-chic drama. "She's not perfect," says Omar Lopez, lead hairstylist for ghd. "As an average wartime girl, she's not completely coiffed—she's had to step up to that masculine role and has a Rosie the Riveter element—but she's still feminine."

To create the imperfect, side-swept tendrils, Lopez first sprayed ghd Sea Spray for Matte Waves. "We wanted that matte texture," Lopez explains. "Though there were shiny elements in the heels of the shoes, the bags, and the belts, the fabrics had a matte finish—so we played with that." In creating the finger-wave style, Lopez parted hair on the side and flat-ironed back and forth along the surface, using metal prongs to help shape the wave. Pulling remaining strands over the shoulder, he then pinned them in back for a side-swept style.

Find Hair Style Resources - Disocver New Hair Styles - ELLE Loose locks fell evenly to either side at BCBG’s spring 2009 show

Imaxtree

To complement the seductive, contemporary clothing of the BCBG spring 2009 collection, lead hairstylist Laurent Philippon chose a similarly modern hairstyle. And at the center of attention was a perfectly sleek part. "The hair is clean, but we made it sharp by adding a straight part in the middle," says Philippon about the carefree do. "We used a mix of Prep from Bumble and bumble—which is a very light liquid conditioner—and Styling Lotion to bring a bit of hold."

After preparing the hair, Philippon blow-dried with a round brush to soften the effect of the sectioned-off middle and to create "a slight curve with movement and life." Philippon also mussed the models' strands ever so lightly before they stepped onto the runway. "To me, it doesn't really matter what your face shape is," says Philippon about the center part. "Unless you have a really skinny, long face, I think it's fine."

Guido, Redken's creative consultant, who styled a similar down-the-middle hairstyle at Gap's spring 2009 show, agrees: "Sure, there are technical rules [about face shape], but rules are there to be broken."

Find Hair Styles and Resources Now Introduces New Hair Styles - ELLE A new at-home tool lets you touch-up your roots perfectly

Steven Krause

The Hair Color Extender aims to liberate dye dependents—or at least stretch their time between appointments. Designed to be filled by one's own colorist, the two-barrel plastic container stores dye and color-activating developer separately (they should remain stable for up to six months). When it's time to touch up, the two squeeze together and create just enough dye to treat pesky hairlines and parts. "It's a lifesaver for anyone with single-process color, who sees roots appear in just two weeks," says the man behind the Extender, Basil Konstantinidis, a salon owner in Tappan, New York. Asked whether his invention might be bad for business, Konstantinidis laughed. "Now that my clients' color looks good all the time, I get more referrals than ever."

The Short List 2009 Short Hairstyles- Find Pixie Cut Hairstyles for 2009

2009 Short Hairstyles- Find Pixie Cut Hairstyles for 2009 - ELLE Celebrities who lopped off their locks—and made our hair hall of fame

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham

She started the bob craze—it's only natural that she'd popularize the pixie cut, too.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow

New year, new look! At the beginning of 2008, Paltrow traded in her superlong strands for a shorter, more flattering blunt cut.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway

Hathaway washed that man right out of her hair; shortly after troubling reports first surfaced about then-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri, Hathaway debuted a stunning new bob. Since then (and since dumping the convicted con man), the actress has grown out her locks to a fresh, just-above-the-shoulder length.

Liv Tyler

Liv Tyler

In a similar post-breakup snap decision, Tyler shed her sleek waves following a separation from husband Royston Langdon in May.

Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon

After a period of growing out her blonde tresses, Witherspoon returned to a shorter, above-the-shoulder look this past summer.

Agyness Deyn

Agyness Deyn

Now that everyone else is catching on, Deyn—an original frontrunner of the pixie do—has grown out her signature stunted strands into a close-cut bob.

Rihanna

Rihanna

This good girl gone bad made headlines when she sported a bob last year, but now she's all about the pixie cut. Whether her hair's blown straight or side-combed and wavy, Rihanna knows how to rock short hair right.

Pixie Geldof

Pixie Geldof

True to her name, British girl about town Pixie Geldof wore a pixie hairstyle long before many of her contemporaries.

Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes

When she first bobbed her hair, many thought she was under the spell of fellow fashionista and good friend Victoria Beckham. However, in the year since, Holmes has individualized her hairstyle—first by adding blunt bangs and later by morphing her mane into a shorter boyish cut.

Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams

Like her former Dawson's Creek co-star, Williams has also chopped her locks in favor of an edgier, more sophisticated do. And the look very clearly mirrors her career transformation; after being nominated for an Academy Award in 2005 for Brokeback Mountain, Williams became a bona fide A-lister.

Mandy Moore

Mandy Moore

Although she wore her hair long and loose after introducing a more folksy, grown-up sound on her 2007 album, Wild Hope, as of late, the songstress has been showing off a shorter, less "wild"—but equally alluring—do.

Hilary Swank

Hilary Swank

Swank is no stranger to a cropped coif: For her star turn in 1999's Boys Don't Cry she sported severely shorn strands. Next up, she'll appear as the pixie-haired Amelia Earhart in Amelia.

Hayden Panettiere

Hayden Panettiere

Snipping her hair this past summer may have meant Panettiere had to wear extensions on the set of Heroes to mask her real-life bob, but the chic update more than makes up for any extra time in hair and makeup.

Jennie Garth

Jennie Garth

A pro at the above-the-shoulder look (she's worn it for some time now), Garth took her tidy tresses to a whole new level when she wore them curly and prettily pinned at the Twilight premiere.

Zoe McLellan

Zoe McLellan

Hard to believe that, prior to her role on ABC's Dirty Sexy Money, McLellan sported long, below-the-shoulder locks. As a put-together art gallery manager on DSM, she sports a pixie do that suits her perfectly.
