Masquerade mask or not, Halloween is the perfect excuse to try out a fun new do. Take Erin Fetherston's fall 2009 runway hair, for example: "It's a bit wicked and more sinister than Erin's usual fairytale look. The girls are a bit Tim Burton-esque," says Lyndell Mansfield, who created the hairstyle.
To mimic Burton's animated characters, Mansfield employed a crimper ("When people draw curly hair, they often do zigzags"). After backcombing the hair and brushing it out with Bumble and bumble Does It All Styling Spray, Mansfield crimped along the hairline and partline ("You don't want to crimp all the hair because it's very time-consuming"). While letting crimped sections stay loose to add movement on the runway, Mansfield fashioned a faux bob, pinning remaining tresses under at the nape of the neck.
